Well it must have been a long last five days because it is only 5:30am and I've almost finished my alloted six cups of coffee (not to worry, it's a regular/ decaf mix). Parker left early Tuesday morning to fly out to Florida for his final round of PGA testing so it was just the boys and me all week long. Last week was also spring break which meant that most of our friends were gone as well and there wasn't any preschool. We managed to stay pretty busy though...at least I was busy! These boys are a handful and I give major props to single mothers. Holy cow it's tough being the only adult around! I do have to say that both the boys stepped it up and brought their "A" game though. They were so so good for mommy! The first couple days were gorgeous so we spent time outside and took a picnic to the park. Thursday was dreary but that was okay because we were busy inside decorating so daddy would have a surprise waiting for him when he got home. Parker really was surprised when we walked in last night. In fact, I think that's the closest I've ever come to seeing him cry! Not really...but kinda:)
Luke was a huge help making this fancy glitter sign. I did all the glue and he chose each glitter color and very carefully sprinkled them one at a time. We probably spent an hour working on this sign and despite our best efforts, there is still a whole lot of glitter on our kitchen floor!
This is Parker's diploma. This is the outside obvioulsy. The actual paper diploma is inside.
Just a word about Parker's PGA work. In order to even begin his apprenticeship he had to pass his PAT (player's aptitude test), which required shooting a minimum score on round of golf at a designated facility. He did this back in 2007 before we ever met. He then passed his Level 1 PGA checkpoint in April of 2011. Each checkpoint requires submission and approval of 'kits' which involve giant books and pages of work, interviews, lessons, videos, etc. An enormous amount of work for anyone, let alone a husband, father and very full-time employee. After each kit is approved you fly to Florida for 5 days of intense testing and seminars at the PGA facility headquarters. This is serious stuff! He submitted his Level 2 kit last November and tested again in December 2012. He quickly completed and submitted Level 3 early 2013 but along with testing, he also had to give a 30 minute presentation in front of his peers, submit his professional portfolio and do a final interview. Again, serious stuff. He has put an immense amount of time and work into this! He of course did fabulous and passed everything with flying colors. I just have to brag because I am so proud of him and love him so much. Not every golf course has a Class A Pro in the shop, btw. It is like getting your Masters in golf and takes the same amount of time and work, if not more. We run Alta Lake, which is owned by his father and has been for 25+ years...the chances of him ever getting fired and having to look for a job elsewhere are slim (not out of the realm of possibility I suppose, but slim)! There was no requirement or incentive for him to earn his Class A Pro but it was important to him and he was determined to finish. It took him nearly six years to complete and since he began his PGA work he met me, got married, had two little boys and took over all aspects of the golf course. He managed to finish though without ever slacking in any of his roles. He's been the same incredible husband, father, friend, partner and worker all along. I love his character!
Parker didn't fly in until Saturday afternoon but the boys and I got up early Friday morning and drove over to Seattle for a little mommy/babies adventure in the big city. I thought that was pretty brave of me! We spent the day at Bellevue Square shopping, playing and of course eating. We were spent by 3:30 though so we checked in to our room at the Hyatt Bellevue and Luke chose to order room service rather than go back out to dinner. Spaghetti and meatballs seemed like a great idea at the time but I'm pretty sure 80's rockstars have left their hotel rooms cleaner than we did! These boys know how to PARTY!
Auntie Heather (one of my best friends) met us out at Southcenter Mall Saturday morning along with her sweet friend Amanda. Thank God too! By then I needed all the help I could get! Daddy didn't get in until 2pm so we had several hours to kill at the mall but let's be honest, little boys and shopping aren't the best combo. We made it though and luckily Parker got in right on time.
We are so very proud of him and so glad he never has to do this again! Congratulations Boo! We love you!
